Families who have a third child will not receive more child support than they would for two children. George Osborne announced that families who have a third child, or subsequent children after 2017 will not receive additional tax credits or universal credit support. This has caused many to argue that this is effectively stating that there is more or less a two child policy for the poorest of families.

The Chancellor has also announced that there will be 30 hours of free childcare. This will be available for working families. This has also been criticised as experts say this will not work.
