‘Kids Need Both Parents’ ran a competition for children to nominate their Grandparents for a V.I.P Day out at Birmingham City F.C. on Saturday 26th December 2018. The winners enjoyed hospitality in the Jasper Carrot Suite where they had a tour of the ground followed by a four course meal and refreshments.
Below are some of the winners:
Noah aged 7 wrote:
“My grandad is special because even though he lives in Birmingham and I live in London he drives down every Monday to pick me up from school and play with me and makes spaghetti bolognese. This means my mummy can go to work. He is 73 and has been supporting Birmingham since he was my age. Grandad still likes to play football with me and taught me Keep Right On”.
Lottie aged 8 wrote a poem:
Nanny Football
Nanny Football is her name
The sport football is her game
Although she is not very fast
Her little legs will make her last
I don’t think it matters if your good of if your bad
The only thing that counts is how much fun that you have had.
And when nanny football plays her game
I really think she should be called a dame.
So when your playing football remember this short ryme.
Enjoy the fun with your mates and have a jolly time!!!
Jacob aged 11 was the overall winner and he entered with support from his step-mom Cahla. Jacob’s parents split up before he was born, but both are very much a part of his life, thanks to his Nan Linda who ensured that the lines of communication were always open (even during difficult times). Jacob’s Dad wasn’t ready to settle down and didn’t feel he could handle the responsibility of parenting, however Linda understood and supported her son and Jacob’s Mom.
Cahla got to walk the team out and Jacob was a Mascot for the day courtesy of ‘Kids Need Both Parents’. The family got to meet Man of the Match Jacques Maghoma after a fantastic game against Stoke where the Blues scored 2-0.
We also chose 6 families, (1 Grandparent and 1 child) to be flag bearers where they got to perform a guard of honour on the pitch as the teams walked out between them.
We were the Main Match Sponsors on the day and we raised £286.74. Thank you to everyone who contributed!
